Cuff bracelets were first used by the Ancient Greeks and Egyptians and they were often made of solid gold or other precious metals! These bracelets made the wearer look powerful and sophisticated. Nowadays, bracelet cuffs can now be made with different kinds of material. You can even make them at home! Our friends at Remarkably Domestic will teach you how to create a great woven cuff bracelet that’s made out of 550 paracord strings. Trivia: The parachute cord (or 550 paracord) is a lightweight nylon kernmantle rope that was first used in the suspension lines of US parachutes during the second world war. Aside from its strength, the paracord was used for many other tasks and is essential for different survival techniques.
Here are some more ideas to create different versions of this woven cuff bracelet:
1. Charmed – attach a charm near the closure of the bracelet. Use a jump ring to connect it with a lobster clasp. You can choose rhinestones and crystals or you can also make your own polymer clay charms!
2. Textures – Instead of a 550 paracord, try experimenting with different materials. Use a strip of ruffled cloth together with a few strips of yarn. The technique that was shown in the tutorial may be a bit challenging to do at first, but once you’re able to get the hang of it, you can really work with different materials.
3. Anklet – Anklets are so cool to wear during the summer, so try to extend the length of the paracord string so that it will fit the size of your ankle.
4. Bag Charms – Attach a clasp at the loop of the bracelet. You can also add a few charms. Your bracelet can now be used to decorate your bag!
5. Bookmarks – Shorten the length of your woven bracelet and create a bigger loop. Make your bookmark by using any material (cardboard, plastic, etc) and punch a hole at the top. Loop the bracelet in the hole and you’re done!
