When you’re at a party, you almost always see cake stands on the dessert table. Not only do they add to the aesthetic value, they also create space for more food to be displayed! However cake stands can get expensive, especially when they’re made of good quality material.

Luckily, we found this awesome DIY tutorial created by our friends at Uncommon Designs that will teach you how to make your own cake stands! The steps are quite easy to follow and you can definitely get the materials at most hardware and crafts stores. The link to the full tutorial follows after our additional tips.

Once you’ve made your cake stand, here are some more decorating ideas:

1. Black is a great color for Halloween themed parties or night parties that involve neon colors. This makes the food stand out more. However, if you want something that’s more simple and more feminine, or something that would look nice during the daytime, try painting some of your cake stands white.

2. These cake stands are so easy to decorate and can go with any themed party. For example if you want to spruce these up for Easter or a spring garden party, try to get fresh flowers and place them on the sides of the stand. If it’s a wedding, lace and ribbons will work just as great.

3. You can also use these cake stands to decorate your room too! If you love to collect make up and beauty products, you can get the ones that are in neat packaging. Arrange them on the cake stand and place a cake cover over it! You can also add some faux flowers (you can make paper roses out of recycled scraps of paper). If you love romantic and feminine styles, then this decor idea will really tickle your fancy!

4. If you want your cake stands to have a kind of vintage look to them, use sandpaper to create an old rustic feel. You can also use a coat of varnish.

5. You don’t have to keep these cake stands in storage if you’re not using them. Use them for your framed pictures or candles.
